Mario Party Superstars – -apkrig

When I learned that Mario Party Superstars would be missing games that use Joy-Con motion controllers, I started making noise and waving my hands incomprehensibly. After all, games with motion controllers were the best thing that attracted me, my wife and my son to the game, and above all, thanks to them, it was a perfect game for family moments and possibly even couch parties.

So yes, first an explanation of how the last two games of the Mario Party series differ: In 2018, the Super Mario Party was released on the Switch, which used mini-games and moving controls, and you can play our GamesPlay here. Mario Party Superstars has now been released, which is a slightly different version and is more a tribute to its predecessors. About a compilation of games from the previous thirteen years of the history of this series. Of course in improved graphics and with occasional changes in gameplay. So, logically, the Mario Party Superstars gets rid of the motion controls and instead adds a number of thoughtful game boards where you can play the local version of Man, don’t be angry, but with the rules that Sheldon Cooper would do on mushrooms. Toadette sponges.

Online with aliens and stickers

So with a skeptical eye, I let Mario Party Superstars go through the three rounds of evaluation. In the first one, I played it myself, just using the online mode. Without it, of course, it would be sad to play a party game alone and it would not make any sense to evaluate the title at all, but the online mode adds the opportunity to enjoy the fun, even for lonely and hikikomori.

During online mode, it is most often the game boards, where you can really tactically use and sometimes use very wild behavior within the thematic fields. In Horror Land, for example, you have to watch the night and day cycle, but, in fact, it’s much better to discover the elements of each board on your own. Of course, voice chat is missing in the online mode, so there is also the possibility of getting upset about how someone baked you. Instead, there is a system of stickers that you gradually unlock and you can use them to respond to the course of the game. An angry Mario or a mocking Bowser will make it clear how you are feeling.

However, for me, Mario Party Superstars is a game of two modes. The first is playing on boards, which can sometimes stretch and requires some thinking ahead, and as a result, the party may be more likely to kill the game. I would definitely choose this mode in an environment where all participants already know what they are going for and are willing to think a few moves ahead and learn the rules of the game and the board.

The second is the mini-games themselves, which you can finally embark on immediately in Mt. Minigames with a hundred. But minigames are the basis of all the fun, and that’s how I get to my second two test samples. The first was a wife and playing in two with a pair of computer-controlled opponents. And because we wanted instant fun, we reached for a collection of minigames. I added my five-year-old son, who already played the Super Mario Party to the third test group (and he won’t call it anything other than Mario Celebration), and he enjoyed the minigames with motion controls the most, so I was worried about how this potentially “boring” version would catch on.

One hundred minigames with a minimum of treads

But all my worries turned out to be odd. The mere fact that you can jump into the mode of hundreds of minigames (in which you can even check the ones you want to have among your favorites) is a huge bonus. Mt. Minigame offers instant entertainment and most importantly is very variable. Within two minutes, a carousel mini-game can be started in a couch cooperation for up to four players – another random mini-game – repeat the mini-game if you enjoyed it or were on teams and you wanted to play it with someone else. You have time to train before the start of each mini-game, because the rules often differ very, very different. The control is now primarily located on the analog lever, to which one or two buttons are sometimes added, very rarely the shoulder buttons L and R.

But with real games comes real fun. You can let go of combinatorics from game boards that will entertain more adult players and just have fun with a series of more or less fun minigames, thanks to which time at Mario Party Superstars runs infernally fast. Since there are a hundred of them, it is not a problem to jump as quickly as possible, which will suit the given staff more. In addition, you usually do not spend more than five minutes, including training, unless you decide to repeat one. Which will actually happen to you very often.

We have “malicious” games like Bumper Balls, where you try to throw others off a small plate, Speed Hockey-style teams or the excellent GOOOOOOAL, where you just shoot three for one goalkeeper. But there are also excellent pieces, where you have to count how many goombs ran in front of you or copy the shape, which is mainly about accuracy.

Surprisingly, there were not many games that did not meet the success of both the two-member and three-member test groups. Beach volleyball had too many controls and was not very precise, so there was no fun frustration, but rather pure frustration. Likewise, counting the fruit that falls from a tree while trying to drop a wasp’s nest on an opponent is too drastic a change of pace and also too long a minigame. Of course, this is very individual, however, even for a small son in the final, barely a tenth of minigames did not pass through the sieve, which is a great success for the whole hundred.

And where is Tanuki Mario?

Well, and finally the problem with motion controllers, the absence of using a motion sensor. Surprisingly, they were not missing at all. On the contrary, the child also appreciated that thanks to the analog and buttons, the control is much clearer, more accurate and more readable, which was certainly not the case with the Super Mario Party and its movement minigames. So the potential snag I was most afraid of was not confirmed in the end. It was surprising to me how no problem it was to play two hours straight, without feeling like two hours had actually passed.

However, I would definitely include a small selection of heroes in the criticism. There are just a few dozen of Nintendo’s diverse world of characters. We just had it, because my son has Maria as his hero forever, but I can imagine that if it was Bowser, for example, he would be sad (at least five minutes) that he would not play for him in this version.

It’s just that the Nintendo has a huge roster of characters (see Mario Kart), the local song is sadly small. And another reproach will be directed at artificial intelligence, which you have to take with you from time to time. Although it is only supposed to be in numbers, even the easiest difficulty in some games does not make mistakes and absolutely dominates. Although there are funny moments when the offspring announces to you “I’d rather play this with Luigi” (controlled by AI), but especially in mining truck races or the local version of Tetris, the AI is simply too strong. Fortunately, these are just a few games that you will quickly leave and elsewhere it will fit into your squad.

But that’s about all I can say about the Mario Party Superstars at the moment. He just has no competition in what he wants to do and fully replaces the original Super Mario Party for our family, which I really didn’t expect. Of course, you also need to be clear about what you want from the game. If you have no one to play with on the couch in cooperation, I’m not sure that online mode will entertain you so much. It’s still playing with people you don’t see. Its more sense is that you don’t have live teammates on hand and you want to kill some time, but I definitely wouldn’t buy this title because of that. On the other hand, if you want a game that will entertain any of your visitors or children from about three to four years old, Mario Party Superstars is a sure bet.
