March: Ingenuity photographs the Perseverance landing site
Ingenuity has come full circle. The small drone-helicopter of the NASA returned to the starting point where it all began, on February 18, 2021. On that day, the rover Perseverance began its descent towards the crater jezero carried by a capsule and its parachute. Ingenuity flew over and photographed the landing area, and the wreckage is still there. The site actually looks like these images of SF, remains of ships eaten away by the years and lost on mysterious planets. Here, it is “just” about Mars, but ultimately, the impression of “elsewhere” is still intact despite the multiplication of missions.
Beyond the strange beauty of this shot, NASA hopes to extract crucial information about the conditions of the landing, and thus improve future missions on the red planet. These data are added to the impressive videos of the landing filmed from the Rover in descent and the capsule located just above.
