Live View, charging points and wheelchair accessibility
Google has announced that maps service Maps will be equipped with three new functions. The functionality will be rolled out to users in the near future. It concerns information about wheelchair accessible places, finding charging points quickly and better and there is news about Live View.
Google Maps is expanding
Live View is a useful addition to Google Maps. For example, you can navigate more precisely with the help of Google Maps and the camera in, for example, a city that is unfamiliar territory for you. At the end of September, Google announced that the functionality of Live View would be further expanded. Then it became clear that it would be much more interactive, with information about reviews, prices, opening times and more. Consider, for example, finding the departure times when you point the camera at the station, or finding the opening hours of a shop. In addition, you can quickly find certain places, such as an ATM, certain store, restaurant or something else. The results are now getting better thanks to the combination of Street View, AI and AR.
Charging stations
If you use Google Maps to find charging points for your electric car, you can also expect improvements. Google will roll out an option that allows you to filter for charging stations that are suitable for your car. Think of certain supports or fast charging points that can charge at a speed of more than 50 kW.
Wheelchair accessibility
Google Maps is also rolling out improved information about wheelchair accessible spots. This feature was previously rolled out to users in Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and will now roll out globally. In recent times, Google Maps has already collected the necessary information for this. The information about wheelchair accessibility is visible with the other information about a location, such as opening times. You still have to indicate the function with which it becomes visible in the settings in the Google Maps app. This can be done at Settings > Accessible places.
The new features will be rolled out from now on. However, it may take a while for everyone to see the new functionality in Google Maps apps. The new features will be available for both Android and Apple iOS.
