Live Translate is a game changer for translation (video)

Live Translate is Google’s exclusive translation feature on the Pixel 6. It works with smart algorithms and the Tensor chipset made with artificial intelligence in mind. We’ll show you what you can do with it in this video.

Google Pixel 6 Live Translate

During this Pixel 6 Pro week you will get to know the new phones from Google together with the Androidworld editors. Yesterday we discussed six things you should know before buying it. Today it’s up to Live Translate. Those are the enhanced translation capabilities that work exclusively on the Pixel 6 series. That’s because the phones run on Google’s own Tensor chipset, and in this article we’ve already discussed how this chipset is optimized for the Pixel 6’s smart features.

With Live Translate you can start typing a message and then quickly translate it in real time. You then only have to tap on send and you have immediately sent a text to a foreign-speaking friend or colleague. The fast translations also work with speech and that is also very fast. You then tap the microphone while translating and you start speaking. You will see your message appear on the screen and the translation will be shown in the message. Game changer for translations

The function works ‘on-device’ as it is called, so the translations are done on the phone without having to send texts via a network connection to Google’s server. That is very convenient for travelers. It is noticeable that Google Translate sometimes still translates Dutch too literally or makes mistakes based on the context, but it has never been easier to communicate smoothly with someone who speaks a foreign language in your own language. No hassle, just talk to each other smoothly. It felt like a game changer during the time I was able to test it.

Another option with Live Translate is to quickly translate audio you play on your phone and show subtitles, but that functionality only works with a handful of languages: English, Japanese and German. What does work smoothly is the interpreter function of Google Translate. With the Assistant command “Hey Google, be my interpreter” Google can quickly translate in two directions and you can see that in the video.
