Lightyear 0 car reaches 1000 km on a full battery
The Eindhoven company Lightyear has developed a plug-in car, the Lightyear 0, with which you can drive 1000 km without having to recharge it. In the middle of summer even more, on free energy. What is their secret, with which they beat even giants like Tesla?
The claims about the Lightyear 0 do not stop here. In countries in the tropics and subtropics, such as India, you no longer have to charge the car at all for seven months a year. And even in the less sunny Netherlands you can also drive past the charging station two of the 12 months.
Lightyear 0 with 5 square meters of solar panels
The people of Eindhoven achieve this by using integrated solar panels in the body of the car. A car is stationary almost all day. And the sun supplies a lot of energy per square meter, under optimal conditions even up to 0.2 kilowatt hours per hour with a highest quality solar panel. A large car like the Lightyear 0 can therefore generate a few kilowatt hours per day with a total of 5 m2 solar panel.
Very aerodynamic model
Not only does this car generate its own energy, this car is also extremely economical. Lightyear 0 achieves this through very good aerodynamics, which are very close to the ideal shape. The 1000 km mentioned only applies to low speeds. But even on the highway you can still get more than 500 km.
Lightyear 0 only for the rich, successor at a mid-range price
This first model, the Lightyear 0, is not suitable for the outcasts of the earth at € 250,000. The successor, the Lightyear 2, will be ready for production at the end of 2024 to early 2025 and has a considerably more affordable price tag, around € 30,000. Especially now that electricity is becoming more and more expensive, and oil prices are also rising, this car may well become a major success.
