LG’s first gaming laptop immediately promises a lot of good

It’s always good when your first attempt is a good one, and that’s the case with the first LG Ultragear gaming laptop.

LG has focused on a lot of equipment: you know them from TVs, computers, laptops and until recently smartphones. Something LG has never dealt with before: a gaming laptop. Often the first product is a trial, but for LG it looks good at first.

LG gaming laptop

With a gaming laptop you want games to be played well, so the LG Ultragear laptop gets an NVIDIA RTX 3080 Max-Q video card. It can still keep up with the top, although the Max-Q name means that it is specifically about a laptop card (so any performance may deviate from the RTX 3080 that is in most PCs). The GPU is assisted by an 11th generation Intel Core CPU, although it is not clear which one exactly. Working memory varies between 16GB and 32GB DDR4 and you can get storage memory up to 1TB. It all sounds like you won’t be short of anything with the LG gaming laptop, which officially goes by the name LG Ultragear 17G90Q. There should be an abbreviation for that.

Housing

All this is packed into a compact laptop. The thing is 21.4 mm thick and weighs only 2.7 kilograms thanks to an aluminum construction. It is not a tiny boy with a screen diagonal of 17.3 inches. Incidentally, this can handle refresh rates of up to 300 GHz and the resolution is a decent 1920 × 1080. Furthermore, in theory you could also use it as a work or study laptop, you also get a Full HD webcam with a double microphone system. Other tricks are a finger sensor and a number of ports, such as several USB-Cs, a number of USB-A’s, HDMI, ethernet and an aux plug.

So few drawbacks, but it seems obvious that LG’s first gaming laptop is not going to be a cheap device. We won’t know how bad the damage is until the laptop launches globally. For now, that only happens in the US and South Korea.
