LG will stop unlocking tool for smartphone bootloader this month

A remarkable step by LG for its smartphones. The manufacturer has announced that it will discontinue the tool that allows to unlock the bootloader in the official way.

LG stops unlocking bootloader

Earlier this year it was announced that LG is withdrawing from the smartphone market. Some existing devices will still be updated with the updates, the manufacturer promises, but in more and more areas we see that it is over and over for the manufacturer’s smartphones. We also see this with the latest step that LG is taking, which the colleagues at Tweakers write about.

On December 31, LG will stop the tool that makes it possible to unlock the bootloader of a phone. The tool provides an unlock key that you need to unlock the bootloader. To use a custom rom it is necessary to have an unlocked bootloader. The fact that LG will no longer offer this from next year means that unlocking the bootloader is no longer possible via the official route. As a result, users who still want to get started with this will have to use third-party tools.
