Legends ends before Vortex is officially released
The developers at Cryptic Studios have announced that their action RPG Magic: Legends based on the card game Magic: The Gathering will end. This is despite the fact that the title did not enter the open beta on the PC until March, and the full version was yet to be released, including other platforms. The servers will definitely shut down on October 31.
The authors interpreted the message with great regret to the players. All players who invested money in the game during the open beta will be compensated in full. Although the servers remain operational until the end of the game, the in-game store has already closed. All items can then be bought for game currency.
The authors do not plan to revive the game
The developers have admitted that their vision has not met with success, but they say they are proud of what they have accomplished. Thanks to Wizards of the Coast, they were able to show the world of Magic: The Gathering to a new audience and explore it from a new angle. Cryptic Studios says they have learned some valuable lessons from this trip that they will use in the future.
The authors thanked all fans for their support and feedback during the testing phases. Magic: Legends will never be released for PlayStation, Xbox and Steam, as originally intended. The developers also stated that they have no plans for the future revival of Magic: Legends at this time.
A game similar to Diablo was announced in June 2017. Formally, the title Magic: Legends was presented at The Game Awards 2019. It was backed by experienced authors from Cryptic Studios. This team belongs to Perfect World, which was the publisher of the project. Cryptic has successful games like Star Trek Online or Neverwinter.
But the free-to-play title simply couldn’t find a large enough audience. Players complained about a number of problems from performance, through grind to microtransactions. Still, it’s weird that someone broke the stick over him so fast. After all, beta versions are just there to help catch up with similar issues. We ourselves haven’t even managed to include the game in the stream yet, and the question is whether it will still make sense at all now.
