Leaked: iPhone 13 finally gets a modern fingerprint scanner
Several sources write that Apple is finally giving the iPhone 13 a modern in-display fingerprint scanner. But which?
While the iPhone 12 is going very fast, Apple is already preparing for the iPhone 13. It is said to have finally got a modern fingerprint scanner. The rumor was already circulating earlier this month after a message from Bloomberg and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Now the Wall Street Journal is writing the same thing and it seems finally confirmed. Apple is finally going to make a premium fingerprint scanner for a premium iPhone 13.
‘iPhone 13 gets in-display fingerprint scanner’
Now that all kinds of different platforms have published the same rumors, it seems almost certain. The iPhone 13 finally gets an in-display fingerprint scanner. So far, Apple has always opted for FaceID in recent years, while TouchID has been omitted. Only a retro device like the iPhone SE still had a fingerprint scanner. But then in an old-fashioned home button.
With the iPhone 13, Apple seems to finally be pushing their premium philosophy towards biometric security. After all, users will be happy with the option to choose between facial and fingerprint recognition.
Now the question remains what kind of in-display fingerprint scanner the iPhone 13 series will get. Considering the prices of a new iPhone, we can actually expect an ultrasonic scanner. It uses sound waves to check the fingerprint.
That technology is a lot more reliable, more accurate and easier to use. On the other hand, there is the optical scanner, which simply ‘checks’ whether it is the correct fingerprint. This technique is less reliable, accurate but a lot cheaper.
