Kickass Torrent: the real address of the site in 2023!

KaT, for short, is a platform for downloading a large number of media files, accumulating more than a million users until its deletion. In 2015, it even reached the 69th place of the most visited sites in the world.

The site works in a fairly classic way, it indexes a set of “magnet” links, facilitating peer-to-peer file sharing. However, as on any reputedly illegal download platform, there is both free content and elements protected by copyright.

Why was this site removed?

It is therefore the presence of films, music and other media protected by the DMCA that led to the closure of Kickass Torrent. After several judgments by American courts, requiring the founder of the platform to carry out an in-depth cleaning of the indexed links, the site was deleted in 2016.

Like the Phoenix, Kickass Torrent has returned from the world of the dead!

Since then, the KaT platform has never returned under this name, but through a galaxy of proxy sites or operational mirrors. Clones or similar platforms, a large number of sites have taken inspiration from Kickass Torrent to offer a similar service. In 2023, for example, we can count on YggTorrent, which is also being chased by defenders of rights holders.

P2P is also on the upswing and the new generation of Netflix-allergic downloaders makes extensive use of direct download (DDL) and sites like Wawacity and Zone-Téléchargement.

Can we access Kickass Torrent in 2023?

In short, the answer is yes. Even though the site was taken down in 2016, by order of the US federal authorities, the platform was relaunched on another domain name:

As this is an international site, you will find films from all walks of life so to target French-speaking content, you will have to type your request with the keywords TrueFrench (for non-Canadian French dubbing) or VOSTFR for the original version with French subtitles.

Finally, note that since the big wart Hadopi merged with the CSA to form the Arcom, we can still cause you trouble by downloading a file via BitTorrent, even using a magnet link. The wisest thing is to protect yourself with a VPN. The cheapest at the moment is the very good CyberGhost (€2.19/month)but we can also advise you Surfshark at €2.30/month which offers new features. Are you rich and want to be like everyone else? Take NordVPN at €3.99/monthSO !

In one click you are elsewhere: you are anonymous, your data is encrypted and you access unpublished content on Netflix for example…
