Judge has good news for Xiaomi
A judge is ruling in a lawsuit brought by Xiaomi, in which the company is protesting against the inclusion on the blacklist. Successfully.
Under the rule of Donald Trump, Huawei, among others, was pushed into the abyss with sanctions. Xiaomi also received a similar treatment, but that turns out to be completely unfounded. In any case, an American judge temporarily suspends the Chinese smartphone brand from the blacklist.
Xiaomi wins lawsuit after ban
US federal judge Rudolph Contreras has ruled the sanctions against Xiaomi were nonsense, Bloomberg reports. The Chinese brand was banned for military use, among other things. American companies were also stopped from trading with Xiaomi.
The preliminary ruling now shows that the court is not convinced of Xiaomi’s alleged evil intentions. They therefore agree with Xiaomi in its lawsuit against the sanctions.
The sanctions are arbitrary and incalculable according to Contreras ”. Under Trump, the US government still claimed that sanctions had to be imposed to ensure national security. The brand would pass on information to the Chinese government. We have heard that story before …
Xiaomi also says in a statement to CGTN that the allegations are nonsense.
We would like to emphasize that Xiaomi is a publicly traded company with independent management, a divided ownership structure and publicly tradable shares. (…) We believe that the inclusion of Xiaomi on the [vermoedelijke] military blacklist was an arbitrary decision that the judge has considered. We will continue to ask the court to lift the orders against Xiaomi.
That looks pretty good for Xiaomi, by the way. According to the same judge, this temporary ruling is a good harbinger for the future. He expects that the final decision will also be in favor of Xiaomi. It is not known when that lawsuit will take place.
