It is enough to have the first essential document on your mobile phone

If you are one of the holders of a driver’s license and at the same time you support the gradual transfer of the necessary documents to smartphones, we have good news for you. The so-called green card, which confirms the payment of compulsory insurance for the vehicle, does not necessarily have to be in paper form in the car and for proof information on the mobile display will suffice. It is based on a few days old decision of the Ministry of Finance, which assessed and also canceled an earlier case from the Central Bohemian Region.

“It simply came to our notice then the obligation can be fulfilled in this way, and therefore the Ministry of Finance annulled the decision of lower administrative authorities, which, on the contrary, was based on the legal opinion that the green card should be presented exclusively in paper form. The Vehicle Liability Insurance Act does not explicitly stipulate the requirements for the form of a green card, because the words “submit”, “issue” or “certificate” used by law are neutral in terms of the form of the document and they can cover both paper and electronic forms, ”the ministry explains on its own website why it opposed the original decision of one of the city authorities.

At the end of the report, the Ministry of Finance adds that the decision is not a change of opinion, but only decision in an individual case, however, is already actively negotiating with the Police of the Czech Republic on projection into methodological procedures. Drivers can therefore basically count on a green card or other form of proof of payment of compulsory insurance will suffice when checking in mobile phone.
