Is Facebook coming with a social media app for pets?
Maru, Chris P. Bacon, Grumpy Cat: We all know an internet celebrity who has four legs. Many people see their pet as a family member and believe that Simba or Luna should also have a social media profile. Facebook seems to be planning to launch a special social platform for animals: Petbook.
pet book
Facebook has not yet revealed any plans for it, but it has registered the Petbook brand name in both Mexico and Europe, Letsgodigital writes. If a Facebook for pets is indeed set up, the question is whether this will become a separate platform, or whether some kind of department will be formed within Facebook itself. However, it could possibly be accompanied by a separate app for Petbook.
You see it happening a lot now: people who create a separate account for their four-legged friend on Instagram, Facebook and sometimes even Twitter or TikTok. Sometimes it’s even people who use the profile to pretend to be their pet. In other words, they talk in the first person to represent the fantasies of their pets, as it were.
Pets on social media
Because there are many people who put their pets on social media, those ‘pets’ also find each other again and so accounts are created that only follow other animals. It seems that Facebook thinks it is time to create a separate place for these types of accounts. Think of cats, hamsters, dogs, guinea pigs, horses, cows, bearded dragons, mini-pigs, and actually all the animals we have in and around the house.
Not much can be inferred from the registration of the trade name, except that it concerns a social media service. It took a while before it was approved: it was already submitted on May 24, 2021 but only now granted, which may indicate an objection. In any case, it has now been approved and it remains to be seen whether Facebook will actually do something with this brand name.
