Is Apple coming back with a new Plus iPhone for the first time since 2017?
Apple is rumored to replace the iPhone 13 mini with a larger iPhone 14 model with a 6.7-inch screen. But what will this device be called?

‘iPhone 14 Plus first Plus iPhone in 5 years’
In 2014, Apple released its first really big iPhone, in the form of the iPhone 6 Plus. Then the 6S Plus, 7 Plus and 8 Plus followed – but then it stopped abruptly. In 2018, Apple announced the iPhone XS Max, but no XS Plus. This device was followed by the 11 Pro Max, 12 Pro Max and 13 Pro Max. So the ‘Max’ name has replaced the Plus iPhones for good. Or not?
Apple always tries hard to keep its marketing names secret before announcing a product. We now know that Apple will no longer make a mini-iPhone. It will be replaced by a larger iPhone with a 6.7-inch screen. Insiders, goodies and tech websites have been calling this device the iPhone 14 Max for months now, but without the Pro label. However, Apple also just comes with an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
As you probably already see, those names are very similar. With such similar names, there is a good chance that users will confuse both devices. Of course, Apple doesn’t want that – the Pro Max has to be head and shoulders above it. But how will Apple handle this? Perhaps the manufacturer is bringing the Plus name back from the dead. Then the iPhone 14 series would look like this:
- iPhone 14
- iPhone 14 Plus
- iPhone 14 Pro
- iPhone 14 Pro Max

With the iPhone 14 series, Apple is taking a slightly different path than usual. For example, there is much more distinction between the Pro and the non-Pro iPhones than we are used to. Where the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max get a brand new A16 chip, the regular iPhone 14 models keep the A15 chip from the iPhone 13. Also, only the cameras of the Pro devices seem to get a major upgrade.
In terms of design, the 14 and 14 Pro are also quite different from each other. This time you can mainly see it from the front. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max no longer have the controversial notch at the top of the screen. This is replaced by two small holes, which we have already seen on many Android smartphones. The regular 14 models keep the notch.
