iPhone SE 4 release: when will the new entry-level model appear?

In addition to the Pro models of the iPhone, the relatively cheap SE devices are also interesting. When is the iPhone SE 4 actually released? And do you have to wait long?

Read on after the ad.

iPhone SE 4: Apple’s Best Budget iPhone

An iPhone Pro (Max) is far too expensive for many people and even a recent ‘regular’ iPhone is well above budget for many. With the iPhone SE, Apple is also trying to reach customers who can’t or don’t want to pay that much money.

The first version of the iPhone SE appeared in the spring of 2016, the second in the spring of 2020 and the last iPhone SE 2022 has been available since last March. There is not a very clear release pattern to recognize, but the iPhone SE is not the only entry-level model.

iPhone 5C and iPhone XR

In 2013, the plastic iPhone 5C appeared, and in the long period between the first and second iPhone SE, the iPhone XR also appeared. Because of the starting price of 849 euros, the latter does not really fit in the list. But the iPhone XR went on sale for three years, costing just $579 at the end.

If you include the iPhone 5C, a pattern becomes visible: Apple sells most entry-level models for two years. This applies to the iPhone 5C (2013 to 2015), the first-generation iPhone SE (2016 to 2018), and the second-generation iPhone SE (2020 to 2022). Only the iPhone XR is a bit different, because it was sold from 2018 to 2021.

iPhone SE 4 release

Following this pattern, it is likely that the iPhone SE 4 will not be released until 2024. Apple will probably keep the iPhone SE 2022 on offer and will lower the price in due course, just as happened with the first iPhone SE (from 479 euros to 409 euros).

In March, Apple asked 529 euros for the iPhone SE 2022. The device currently costs 559 euros in the Apple Store. Still quite expensive for an entry-level iPhone.
