‘iPhone camera can measure your temperature in the future’

Apple has been researching a camera technology that can determine the temperature of a photographed object. The technology could be used in the future as a new health feature of the iPhone.

Rumor: your iPhone will soon know if you have a fever

The Apple Watch is known as the most important link in Apple’s goal to provide users with a healthier lifestyle. However, a recently unveiled patent application shows that the iPhone and iPad can also play a role in monitoring your health. It could mean that the well-known, annoying thermometers may soon be unnecessary.

Apple has patented a new technology that measures the temperature of any object, reports AppleInsider. While the source cites few examples of the technology’s use, the patent application mainly talks about “measurement of body temperature.”

A standalone camera accessory for the iPhone?

The drawing that Apple refers to in the patent appears to depict a separate lens accessory. Apple may not want to make the technology a permanent part of the iPhone’s camera. Who knows, the accessory may be added temporarily when a user wants to measure the temperature.

This outlines the idea that the user pays extra to use the technology. However, it is still much too early to make any statements about this. The patent has not yet been granted to Apple. Even if it did, the technology is still at a very early stage. In any case, it will be years before we will see a similar technology from Apple.

Many of Apple’s patents don’t end up as actual products in the hands of consumers. Yet every new technology starts with a simple drawing. News like this always remains interesting.
