iPhone battery in iOS 15: problem with Spotify

The Spotify forums have seen many complaints about the iPhone battery in recent weeks. Many users who open Spotify and listen to music since iOS 15 notice that iPhone gets very hot. In addition, the streaming service would eat a lot of battery.

For many users, Spotify was responsible for at least 30 percent of total battery consumption. “I have to uninstall Spotify because my iPhone 11 is dangerously hot. It feels like it will melt or explode,” a listener reported on the forum.

Spotify has indicated that it is aware of the problems. “We have passed your information on to the team and can confirm that they are currently investigating it.” It is not yet known when the streaming service will come up with a problem solution.

Solution

However, Spotify does provide tips that may already be able to solve the problem. For example, restarting your iPhone or performing a clean reinstall might help. Disabling Background Refresh is also mentioned as a possible solution. This is how you do it:

  1. Open the Settings app;
  2. Tap ‘General’;
  3. Choose ‘Background Refresh’;
  4. Set the switch behind ‘Spotify’ to gray.

However, for some users, the tips don’t seem to work. Hopefully the streaming service will be able to fix the problem with a software update. There is also a chance that it is an iOS 15 bug. Apple is likely to release iOS 15.0.1 this week, which will include several bug fixes.
