iPhone 15 gets fast WiFi 6E (just like Mac and iPad Pro)

iPhone 15 gets Wi-Fi 6E

The new iPhone 15 series is expected to appear in September. The release will take a while, but more and more is slowly becoming clear about the new phone. If we are to believe the latest rumors, the iPhone 15 will support Wifi 6E. This is the successor to WiFi 6. The new MacBook Pros and iPad Pro also support WiFi 6E. But what’s the point?

The big advantage of WiFi 6E: the speed

Wifi 6E is therefore the successor to Wifi 6. The “E” in WiFi 6E stands for extended: it is an extension of Wifi 6. You can take these words quite literally, because the new internet standard adds a higher frequency. Wifi 6E adds the new 6GHz band, which brings several benefits.

The current WiFi networks now use two frequencies: 2.4 and 5GHz. Depending on the type of device you can connect to one of these frequencies (or both). In general, a higher frequency indicates a faster connection. So 5GHz is faster than 2.4GHz. On the other hand, you sacrifice range: the 5GHz signal reaches less far than that of 2.4GHz.

Wifi 6E adds a completely new frequency to the two current variants. In theory, this allows you to achieve higher speeds and, for example, it takes less time for a Netflix movie to be downloaded. Moreover, you can continue to use existing frequencies ‘normally’. The advantage of this is that you can connect more devices to your wireless network without the speed deteriorating.

The downside: you need a new router

Faster internet always sounds good, of course, but this does not immediately apply when you have your new iPhone 15 soon. The router must also support the new WiFi signal. Most current routers only support the two lower frequencies. So if you want to use the 6GHz frequency, you must first buy a router that does support this frequency.

iPhone 15: This is what we know so far

Whether the faster WiFi 6E will come to all iPhone 15 models is still unclear. It’s quite possible that the faster frequency will only come to the iPhone 15 Ultra, to get even more one high end to make a phone. Earlier it became clear that the Dynamic Island of the iPhone 14 Pro will come to all iPhone 15 models. With this, Apple says goodbye to the notch in the screen.
