Apple released two phones this year. Earlier this year, the company came up with the iPhone SE 2022 and in September Apple presented the iPhone 14 (and all its brothers: the iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max). In this article we compare the ‘normal’ iPhone 14 with iPhone SE 2022.

1. Screen and design

The two smartphones do not have many similarities in terms of design and screen. But there is one common denominator: they are both not new. The iPhone 14 has the same housing and display as the iPhone 13 and the iPhone SE 2022 has the look and screen of the iPhone SE 2020.

The iPhone SE 2022 has a 4.7-inch LCD display and fairly thick bezels. The iPhone 14, on the other hand, has a 6.1-inch borderless screen with a notch (the notch at the top for the selfie camera). The OLED screen of the iPhone 14 is also much brighter and sharper.

In addition, the iPhone 14 lacks a home button and Touch ID. Instead, the iPhone 14 uses Face ID. Another big difference: The back of the iPhone 14 is made entirely of glass and has an aluminum frame. The iPhone SE 2022 is entirely made of plastic and therefore feels a bit cheaper.

2. Processors and other hardware

In terms of computing power, there is little difference between the iPhone SE 2022 and the iPhone 14. Both models have the A15 Bionic chip under the hood. This chip is also in the iPhone 13 (mini) from 2021. With the iPhone 14, this chip has become a bit faster, according to Apple, and this phone has more RAM (8GB instead of 6GB).

This temporary storage memory (RAM) is especially useful if you want to run many apps at the same time. During normal use, however, you will not notice much of the differences in the chips of the iPhone SE 2022 and the iPhone 14. That is why these two chips from Apple still have the same name.

3. Camera: big differences

The big difference between the iPhone SE 2022 and the iPhone 14 is the camera. Where the iPhone SE 2022 only has one camera on the back, with the iPhone 14 we traditionally see two cameras on the back of the phone; one for wide shots and a ‘main camera’. The iPhone SE 2022 only has the main camera.

The camera of the iPhone 14 is also extremely good: it can film and take photos in low light 49 percent better than the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 also has functions such as ‘Autofocus’ (now in the selfie camera), ‘Film mode ‘ and ‘Action mode’. The former provides sharp photos and the latter two provide a film look and better image stabilization respectively. The iPhone SE 2022 does not have any of these features.

4. iPhone 14 and iPhone SE 2022 prices

If you look at the price, the iPhone SE 2022 is the big winner. With a suggested retail price of 529 euros you get this phone with 64GB of storage memory. The iPhone 14 is almost twice as expensive! From 1019 euros get this new flagship into your home. You will get a phone with a storage memory of 128GB.
