iPhone 14 Pro: 6 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and faster Snapdragon X65 modem
The iPhone 14 (Pro) are available for purchase today and there have already been the first dismantling, allowing to know some information not shared publicly by Apple. These include LPDDR5 RAM and the Snapdragon X65 modem for the iPhone 14 Pro.
Rumors had already said that the iPhone 14 Pro would still have 6 GB of RAM like the iPhone 13 Pro last year, but the new models were announced to switch to LPDDR5 RAM instead of LPDDR4. LPDDR5 RAM has the advantage of being faster, which is a good point for users. The teardown of the day confirms this information.
For their part, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus should have LPDDR4 RAM. But there is progress compared to last year since we also find 6 GB of RAM there, where the iPhone 13 had 4 GB of RAM.
The disassembly also reveals that the iPhone 14 Pro have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X65 modem. It is this chip which makes it possible to connect to the antennas of the operators and therefore to have the network for calls, messages and the Internet.
Qualcomm announced its Snapdragon X65 modem in February 2021 with improvements on power consumption, which helps improve battery life when using 5G. In addition, it is the first network chip to support 5G with a theoretical speed of 10 Gb / s on smartphones. In May 2021, Qualcomm updated its Snapdragon X65 with broader millimeter 5G support.
What about the modem of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus? There isn’t a teardown yet, but it’s possible it’s the same chip. In any case, this was the scenario in previous years.
