iPhone 14 Max gets a new name
We’re already looking forward to Apple’s iPhone 14 event next week on September 7. Apple is expected to present four new phones. In addition to the iPhone 14, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, there will be a larger version of the ‘regular’ 14, as a replacement for the iPhone mini. In almost all the rumors so far, it was said that this phone would be called iPhone 14 Max. Logical too, because the larger version of the Pro is called ‘Pro Max’.
Now, however, a case package for this larger iPhone has surfaced. And what name is on it? Not iPhone 14 Max, but iPhone 14 Plus. The photo also looks very reliable, and it is not uncommon for such photos to leak out a week before the event.
Other name iPhone 14 Max is a nod to the past
iPhone 14 Plus? That is reminiscent of some iPhones from the past. The last time there was an iPhone Plus was in 2017 with the iPhone 8 Plus. Now, five years later, that name seems to be celebrating a comeback.
Apple’s naming remains confusing
Apple’s marketing department remains unpredictable when it comes to names. Actually starting with the iPhone X, the naming structure of iPhones got a bit complicated. The successor to the X was the XS (we knew that from the past), but the larger version was suddenly the XS Max. And then there was the iPhone XR, a name that – according to Apple itself – means nothing and just sounds cool.
With the iPhone Pro Max models, things then went completely wild in terms of additions. The logical choice was, as said, now iPhone 14 Max, but in a sense the name iPhone 14 Plus also creates a clearer separation between the ‘regular’ and Pro iPhones.
