Apple completes development of iOS 16

Apple insider and Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman is, as always, well-informed and announces the end of the current development work on iOS 16 and watchOS 9. Apple is said to have completed the work last week and is currently only working on bug fixes (source: Power-On Newsletter).

one Nothing would stand in the way of a timely presentation for the rumored event date of September 7, 2022. We remember: Up to now, an Apple event was assumed to be a week later, but Gurman surprised us in the last few days with an earlier date, although Apple has yet to officially confirm it. An equally timely completion of iOS 16 for the iPhone and watchOS 9 for the Apple Watch is therefore only obvious. In this respect, we can definitely count on the presentation of the iPhone 14 and new smartwatches from Apple.

New iPhone features and functions to look forward to with iOS 16:

Delays to iPadOS 16 point to another event

New Macs and iPads, on the other hand, are less likely. In his latest report, Gurman again confirms Apple’s delay for iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura. Both system updates for Mac and iPad need a little longer and should probably not be completed until October. Just in time for another rumored Apple event where new Macs and iPads are supposed to be the focus. Specifically, Gurman describes the current situation as follows (translated):

The iOS 16.0 update, on which Apple engineers completed their work last week, is scheduled to be released in September alongside watchOS 9. These updates will come with the new hardware. The macOS Ventura and iPadOS upgrades, on the other hand, are now scheduled for October (after Stage Manager-related iPad software delays) to align with the new hardware lineup.

In summary: On September 7th there will be new iPhones, the Apple Watch Series 8 including the new XL model, a new Apple Watch SE and final dates for iOS 16 and watchOS 9. iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura will follow in October along with new Macs and iPads. Among other things, the new iPad Pro with M2 chip and a new edition of the cheapest iPad is expected.
