iOS 15.5 beta 3 is now available: here’s what’s new

Apple has released beta 3 of iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5. It is again a small update, but there are still some notable changes. This is new.

Read on after the ad.

Beta 3 of iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 is now available

Developers are now allowed to install the new version on their iPhone or iPad. The easiest way to do this is through ‘Settings > General > Software Update’. So you do need the right beta profile for this.

With iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4, Face ID with face mask, new emojis and Universal controls became available to everyone. These were relatively large updates, but with the beta 3 (and previous betas) of iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 we now seem to be making smaller steps forward. Apple mainly works on bug fixes and performance improvements. Still, there are a few new features to be found in this beta.

Adjustments in Looking Back

Apple is making some minor changes to the Wallet app and Apple Cash. There are again hints to Apple Classical. It is striking that Apple has adjusted a few things in the Photos app. These changes affect the ‘Lookbacks’. These are the short slideshows that your iPhone automatically creates of certain locations or people.

It seems that Apple is going to ban certain locations from the Memories. These are currently all locations related to the Holocaust, such as the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Anne Frank House and the Schindler Factory.

The fact that Apple is now blocking locations in the Memories is striking. It is therefore possible that even more locations will be added to this list in future iOS 15.5 updates.

Looking back iPhone

In addition to the beta 3 of iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5, Apple is also working on iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. Apple will preview the upcoming major iPhone and iPad updates at WWDC on June 6.
