Samsung distributes more or less important software updates for its smartphones at regular intervals. But this time it’s different, because Samsung closes many security holes that have been classified as very dangerous and affect many Android smartphones. Therefore, you should install the update as soon as it is offered to you.

Samsung distributes important December update

Typically, Samsung will start rolling out monthly software updates before the start of a new month. It’s different in December. The December update, which closes critical security gaps, has now been released for the first smartphones with a delay of a few days. Noisy SamMobile concludes Samsung altogether 93 vulnerabilities. 67 of these vulnerabilities affect all Android phones and not just Samsung ones. 63 vulnerabilities are declared as very dangerous.

First, Samsung is making the December update for the Galaxy S20 smartphones available for download. But it will also soon for many more smartphones and tablets made available, because most security vulnerabilities are contained in Android 10, 11, 12 and 13. So anyone who bought a Samsung phone or tablet in the last few years is affected and should install the December update as soon as it’s available.

The security gaps affect many different areas of the hardware and software that are closed with it. That’s why Samsung in December also took a little longer to update. As always, the rollout will take place in waves, so that the updates will be made available to more and more devices over time.

Android 13 will be rolled out at the same time

Samsung currently has its hands full, because not only is the important December update being distributed for the first smartphones, but the Android 13 rollout is also in full swing. Samsung would like to supply all relevant Galaxy smartphones with Android 13 before the end of the year and thus beat the schedule by two months.
