Instagram Shopping is replaced by the “Tab Lite”.

Instagram wants to reposition itself in terms of e-commerce. The Meta subsidiary stamps the Instagram Shopping segment for this.

Meta only announced the end of Facebook Live Shopping at the beginning of August. But that wasn’t the only shopping feature Meta has parted with so far.

Because how the information reported, Meta notified its employees earlier this summer that “a number of commerce functions” would be suspended. These include functions such as “Creator Commerce”, “Friends & Family Shopping” and community-controlled shopping projects.

So now it also affects Meta’s daughter Instagram. Then how the information reportedthe group now also wants to stamp out Instagram Shopping.

Instagram announces the end of the shopping tab

On Tuesday, Instagram informed its workforce of the changes via an internal memo from which the information quoted. In it, the platform justifies the end of Instagram Shopping with “changed company priorities”. The button that currently takes users to the shopping tab should also disappear from the app by March 2023.

There is “a new direction and goals for the commerce organization,” it said in an earlier memo. These are “more directly linked to Meta’s advertising revenue.”

Instead of Instagram Shopping, there will be a less personalized shopping page called “Tab Lite” in the future. This function is scheduled to start today with a public test.

Shopping should work via advertising in the future

But even if Instagram is parting with its shopping function, the platform still wants to remain active in e-commerce. A company spokesman confirmed this the information.

We remain committed to making Instagram the best place for people to discover and buy products from brands and artists they love.

Opposite to Business Insider let Meta announcethat the commerce area remains important for Instagram.

Commerce remains important to Instagram as we continue to make it easier for people to discover and shop for products across the app, whether in Feed, Stories, Reels, or through innovations like Live Shopping and Drops.

Shopping will therefore not leave the app, but will increasingly flow into existing formats such as stories or reels.
