Instagram makes mess of its own app: users are angry
Instagram has released a new update for the photo app. Content will now be played at maximum volume and the format is also different. Users are angry.
Instagram makes a mess of it
It’s no secret that Facebook isn’t averse to fiddling with its apps. We often see this with Instagram, where new features or formats come and sometimes go. This is also the case now, and that cannot count on much appreciation from the users of the app. The update has already been rolled out to multiple users.
First of all, content such as videos and Reels are opened at maximum volume. You would think it’s a bug, but it seems like a conscious choice. Just in the morning before you get out of bed, while your partner is still next to you, sitting on Instagram is made impossible. Instagram always took over the phone’s media volume; now whatever you set they will automatically launch at maximum volume.
Timeline
Another change that has already been rolled out to all users in the past few weeks; is that you hardly see photos and content of your friends anymore. If you follow hashtags, you will see them more prominently on the screen, interspersed with sponsored content. It may make a difference to switch to the chronological timeline in Instagram, but it is far from ideal.
Finally, there’s the revamped timeline that works very differently. Where before you could scroll vertically through your timeline; the focus is now on full-screen photos and videos. One image is thus shown completely; after that you have to swipe for another photo; time and again. The interface is a bit reminiscent of TikTok. We have already seen this change in the editorial office in recent weeks; although this has also been reversed by the editors.
It is not known how widely the changes will be rolled out for Instagram. In any case, users aren’t happy about it, and it’s hoped that Meta (formerly called Facebook) will scratch their heads.
