Instagram links no longer show preview on iMessage

Update Instagram has apparently fixed the problem. Images and videos from social network links now display correctly in our chats on iMessage.

“This issue is due to a bug, and we are actively working to resolve the preview of Instagram links in iMessage so that they load normally.”, a spokesperson for the social network told Mashable. He didn’t give any further details, nor did he say when the fix will be in place for all users.

Users have been complaining for a while on Reddit the lack of Instagram link preview on iMessage. A priori, Instagram was not aware of this bug until today. This may come as a surprise. But we at least know that a fix will emerge soon.

Where does the bug come from? The Mysk security team conducted their little investigation and discovered the issue. When iMessage tries to retrieve the link’s metadata, Instagram sends Apple’s email back to the login page. And since the page in question does not contain the photo or video data, there is no preview.
