After a long pause, we are once again browsing into the security camera segment. Today we look at one from Reolink, which generally belongs to the top in its field. But this particular piece, Reolink Go PT is not just any camera. It works independently. And completely. For its functioning you won’t need electricity or Wi-Fi. You simply insert a data SIM into it and the solar panel takes care of charging.

The contents of the Reolink Go PT camera package are relatively rich. Of course you will find here everything for the necessary installation from the holder to the last screw, USB-A / microUSB cable, brochures with instructions for installing the camera or stickers that you can put on the building.

Quality of processing

Reolink Go PT you more expensive piece of iron, which corresponds to the quality of workmanship. It has a round shape and the cover itself is made of matt aluminum and on the front we find the blue Reolink logo. Certification is a matter of course IP65. Here, however, it is necessary to say that we get the first piece of camera in less rain drowned. However, the manufacturer complained about it without any problems and nothing similar happened to us in the new one. You can install the camera on almost anything with screws, and screws and dowels are included in the package. All you need is a drill and it won’t take more than ten minutes.

At the back of the camera there is a slot on nanoSIM a microSD karty. If you do not want to connect the camera or would like to assign it to another device, there is also a reset button. It will please you that thanks to the motor, the camera can be rotated vertically by 140 degrees, and horizontally by almost 360 degrees. Thanks to this, you can set up the camera in the application after installation exactly where it should go. There is also a microUSB connector for charging in cases where the solar panel would not be enough for you. We would rather appreciate the USB-C connector, but since you will use it really sporadically, it is easy to forgive the camera.

Video quality

The Reolink Go PT camera is capable of recording video in Full HD (1080p) resolution, which is such a standard. Some may argue that 4K resolution could appear in this price category, which is certainly true, on the other hand, you probably would not pay extra from the operator (unless you choose an unlimited data tariff). The camera sensor is surrounded infrared LEDsthat shines in the distance about 10 meters in the dark.

When the camera decodes motion, you will receive a notification from the Reolink application, from which you can then either view the video or delete it. It will also please the opportunity two-way voice communicationwhich works well. Just keep in mind that if you take the camera too far, of course the other party will not hear you. The video itself can then be stored either locally on the SD card, while the fact that that you will already have one plugged in. It is 16 GB in size, which is enough for about 15 hours of recording in Full HD resolution. If you want to opt for the cloud, you have to use Reolink subscription which offers different tariffs.

Connectivity

What we enjoy most about the Reolink Go PT camera is hers independence, which goes hand in hand with a relatively specific use. If you plan to use it to monitor your home, we would choose something cheaper. For example, Reolink RLC-510A, which we also reviewed for you. The Reolink Go PT camera does not allow connection via Wi-Fi and you will have to use a data SIM card. With the highest (1080p) quality, you will consume about 1.2 GB of data per hour, but if lower quality is enough for you, you can shoot with the same volume for several hours.

Thanks to the supplied solar panel, you won’t have to worry about charging either. It is quite effective, so it will be enough for you even in cases where the sun does not explicitly roast into it. Overnight or in really bad conditions, the battery takes care of the endurance, which we charged once during the entire testing period. The manufacturer therefore thought primarily of independence in this model. Just install the camera wherever at least some sun is shining and there is a 4G connection and you don’t have to worry about it at all.

Application

Reolink has one of the best developed applications, which corresponds not only to optimization, but also to a number of functions. We set the camera to record a 30-second clip after each movement (which is the maximum, you can also set 10 or 15 seconds). It is also great to be able to choose in the image zones whose movement the camera should not record.

Price and availability

The Reolink Go PT + solar panel camera is sold in the Czech Republic in most e-shops for the price of around CZK 10,000, but if you look more carefully, you can also buy it cheaper. At the time of writing, we found it for CZK 8,027.

Resumé

In our eyes, the Reolink Go PT camera is quite a specific device. We see its main benefit in the already mentioned independence, so you can put it anywhere where there is no Wi-Fi connection or access to electricity. On the other hand, we see a certain disadvantage in this, as data tariffs are still relatively expensive (which is certainly not a fault of Reolink) and we would appreciate the Wi-Fi connection. However, the processing is top-notch, as well as we were pleased with the great application with a lot of options or solid recording quality. In addition to the absence of a Wi-Fi connection, the camera also has a price that is relatively high, so it is up to you whether you can defend it in front of yourself.
