Many cities lack reliable and affordable local public transport services. In our weekly ranking, we show you the ten cities where public transport is particularly expensive and the monthly ticket costs the most.

What many experts have been demanding for a long time is now becoming louder and louder in society and politics. A reliable and, above all, affordable public transport system is needed. Many cities in this country are still a long way from that.

At least the 9-euro ticket showed how strong the demand for affordable monthly tickets is. After the campaign expired at the end of August 2022, the municipalities are now returning to their original ticket offers. And given the high energy prices, the costs for consumers are increasing.

Public transport is particularly expensive here

extra examined the prices for monthly tickets that adults had to pay in 2021 in German cities with more than 300,000 inhabitants. We present the average results in our weekly ranking.

10th place: Munich

The comparatively cheapest ticket in Germany was in Munich in 2021. Here, commuters paid an average price for public transport 57 euros for their monthly pass.
