“I’m worried about Roan, he’s been depressed and tired for a long time”
The fact that tough Roan hadn’t quite been himself for some time after the arrival of his half sister started to gnaw at Miss Rosan.
Rosan (41) is a teacher in group 7.
“It struck me for some time that Roan wasn’t himself. He was depressed and tired and often didn’t want to play along with the rest. While I knew him as a binkie, one of the tougher guys. His performance also deteriorated.
I knew he had just had a sister—actually a half-sister—and there were problems in the family. Both Roan’s and sister’s fathers were out of the picture, the mother devouring more and more.

basketballs
One afternoon I asked Roan if he wanted to play basketball with me. I do that more often: when you play or play sports, children talk more easily than when you sit them opposite you at a table. I left the class to a teaching assistant and took Roan to the gym. “You seem tired,” I said. ‘I’m worried about you.’
Safe Home
Finally the word came out. He was tired too. Having to get out two or three times at night before the baby broke him. ‘But yes, she’s hungry, miss. I have to give her a bottle anyway.’ His mother didn’t feel called to do that. My heart broke. Such a tough guy with too much responsibility. Fortunately, our director immediately contacted Safe Home. A few weeks later I had the old Roan back in my class.”
