Illegal streaming: Canal+ and beIN Sports obtain the blocking of sites for the Champions League
The Paris court has authorized Canal+ and beIN Sports, the broadcasters of the Champions League (with RMC Sport), to ask Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free to block access to sites offering football matches in streaming illegal.
Red card for illegal Champions League streaming
Tonight is the Paris Saint-Germain / Real-Madrid match at 9 p.m. and there is a very big expectation as one can imagine. The wait concerns both those who will watch the match legally and those who will have to find a streaming site to watch it illegally. This task should be a little more complicated tonight.
In a press release, UEFA recognizes the decision of the Paris court. Canal+ and beIN Sports will thus be able to report the sites to the operators and obtain in return a rapid blocking to prevent access from France. It is possible that it is a blockage at the DNS level, but it is not confirmed for the moment.
It is the ARCOM (Audiovisual and digital communication regulatory authority), which succeeds Hadopi, which now has more powers, which allows this blocking to be faster and more effective.
Canal+ and beIN Sports are thrilled
“beIN Sports continues its fight against piracy alongside rights holders, official broadcasters and ARCOM. This succession of actions and blocking measures taken by ISPs will quickly significantly reduce access to fraudulent sites, less than two months after the entry into force of the law., declared Caroline Guenneteau, deputy legal director of beIN Media Group.
At Canal+, we have already obtained the blocking of several sites illegally broadcasting the Top 14. “This is a major step forward in the fight against audiovisual piracy in France and ARCOM is doing an excellent job”underlines Céline Boyer, head of content protection within the Canal+ group.
For its part, UEFA announces that it has named two “anti-piracy” companies. They will monitor and detect the matches available illegally in streaming to block them.
