IKEA and Sonos hide speaker in something everyday, can you see it?
IKEA and Sonos turned a simple speaker into a piece of art, with a new invisible Symfonisk speaker.
Earlier this year, it was leaked that IKEA and Sonos are working together to incorporate tech into new furniture. Now it’s official. The speaker brand works together with the furniture maker to incorporate invisible speakers into the artistic interior. For example, in the image above, a Sonos speaker is hidden in the IKEA painting. Only when you know it see it!

In a blog post, the Swedish furniture maker announces the product in the Symfonisk series. The brand calls it a ‘picture frame’ speaker, but technically it is not a picture frame. It is more like a painting that is slightly thicker than a regular painting. In itself, only the cable reveals that it is about smart tech and not just a piece of art.
The speaker can connect to your smartphone and all other Symfonisk and Sonos products via WiFi. Because Sonos is involved with the product, there is also solid software support. You can use all major streaming services to blast music from your painting.
The product reportedly costs about $199, which is converted to €164. The exact price here in Europe, on the other hand, is not yet known. At the time of writing, the speaker painting should be available in physical IKEA stores and via the website. For the time being, the Dutch IKEA website, on the other hand, only offers older Symfonisk products, including the Sonos table lamp with speaker.
