iDEAL gains even more land in the Netherlands
Logically, there is still an explosive increase in payments with iDEAL. The old-fashioned alternative, the giro collection form, is dying out.
Open question for you: when was the last time you filled out a giro collection form? It used to be the only solution, of course, but now the number of payments with giro collection form is falling sharply. That has only to do with one thing: the gigantic advance of iDEAL.
Accept giro
Because we ask you something: when was the last time you made a payment with iDEAL? Chances are you did one more today. Because why bother with a letter, if you can also arrange it directly online? Almost all of the Netherlands seems to think that way. Last year a new low was reached for the giro collection form: 4.4 million acceptance giro payments (compared to 14.5 million in 2017 and 300 million in 1995). It is therefore reported by provider Currence that the giro collection form will disappear completely in 2023 and that the Netherlands must ‘be ready for that’.
iDEAL
Logically, the great alternative of the giro collection form, iDEAL, is gaining a lot of ground. Almost all matters that once had to be arranged with a giro collection form can now be arranged directly online with iDEAL. Think of paying fines on the CJIB website, but also bills and web payments. For example, transferring money to friends is also easy with apps like Tikkie. Last year 9.06 million iDEAL QR codes were scanned and the market share for iDEAL in online webshops increased from 69 percent to 71 percent.
If we observe it this way, the Netherlands is ready for the end of the giro collection form. iDEAL is also being further improved to make everything even smoother. Can’t get up. (via De Telegraaf)
