iCloud Keychain for Windows supports codes for two-factor authentication (2FA)
Apple recently updated its iCloud client for Windows with a novelty that will especially interest those who use the keychain since there is now support for codes for two-factor authentication (2FA).
Two-factor authentication helps strengthen the security of your account, whether on a site or an application. You must enter your username and password, then a temporarily valid code. This code is usually obtained by SMS or through a third-party application (Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.). Now, iCloud Keychain on Windows handles 2FA codes.
On Mac, support is a reality since macOS Monterey. On Windows, iCloud Keychain only works with Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. This means that users who prefer other browsers like Firefox have to open Apple’s utility every time they need to generate a 2FA code with iCloud Keychain.
On the other hand, Windows users can also add and view notes added to their iCloud Keychain passwords — a feature that was introduced with iOS 15.4. In November, Apple also added the option for users to generate strong passwords with the tool on Windows.
