I spend thousands on subscriptions that I don’t use
In today’s world, premium subscriptions are commonplace. You can’t buy many services just once, but you have to pay a smaller or larger fee per month. A thing that would not have had a chance of success a few years ago has captured a large number of users and is completely normal today. In fact I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t pay anything a month (I’m talking about premium services, of course, not a phone bill or even electricity).
Even my grandfather subscribes to Netflix. A few days ago, I decided to tidy up my subscriptions and cancel the ones I didn’t use. Therefore, I will be completely open and honest in this article. To be honest, I never bothered with subscriptions. Whenever I wanted to see or play something, I just paid for the service. That I did her then the next two months he didn’t use it didn’t bother me at allbecause I forgot that I subscribed to the service right away.
A monthly subscription is very treacherous in one thing. The amount itself (usually) does not seem terrible to you. When you see something like CZK 129 a month, you are usually perfectly fine and you don’t have to worry about it. But when you pay for several services, it can cost you an unreasonably high amount. So let’s calculate what the premium services I volunteered for will be taken away from me on a regular basis.
- Netflix – 319 Kč
- Spotify – 193 CZK
- HBO GO – 159 Kč
- Nvidia GeForce NOW – 269 CZK
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – 339 Kč
- O2 TV – CZK 450
- iCloud – 79 CZK
- Round Table Patreon – 105 CZK
- YouTube Premium – 179 CZK
So the sum for the subscription I spend over 2,000 crowns every month. There would be nothing terrible about that yet. But when I wrote this list down on paper, I found that I used barely half of these things. So I thought to myself that at least 4 things will go away. I’m not dealing with the final price now. I’ll go from the ones I use the most to the ones I last turned on a few months ago. So I have O2 TV, iCloud, YouTube Premium and Netflix left.
I’ve found that it’s not my duty to pay for HBO GO (or Netflix, Voyo and other similar streaming services) when I’m interested just a few specific series that I have already watched. When the new series comes out, I’ll be happy to pay for it again that month. I turn on Spotify about once a week and I can easily listen to my YouTube Premium. Gaming services I haven’t used it in a third month, yet I have paid for them twice for no reason now and I last made a recording of Patreon sometime in September.
With this primitive cleansing, which I should have done a long time ago and it took me about 15 minutes a month, I will save over 1,000 crowns. And basically I won’t lose anything at all, because I didn’t use the above-mentioned services anyway. Instead, I can invest the amount saved in something more sensible or have more beer in the pub. It doesn’t matter at all. With this article, I just wanted to say that there will definitely be a lot of people among us who have made the same mistake as me. If you are one of them, try to sit down for a few minutes and get your subscriptions in order. It’s worth it.
