‘I mixed up my children’s teacher and teacher’
In all the hustle and bustle, as a parent of three, you sometimes get things mixed up and then you just have to hope that you don’t commit too big a blunder.
Emmily (32) is single mother of Naomi (9), Thomas (7) and Sam (4):
“It’s a struggle sometimes, taking care of three children on my own in addition to a full-time job. I wouldn’t want it any other way, and most of the time it goes well. Until Naomi’s teacher shared a concern with me via email, just when Thomas was not doing well at school either. Without looking, I sent the quite urgent e-mail: ‘Dear Mr. de Vries, I understand the concern, but shall we e-mail later?’

Of course I knew very well who my children’s teachers are, but my life is quite busy and I sometimes get things mixed up.
‘Dear mother of Naomi,’ the teacher replied, ‘I am Naomi’s teacher, Thomas’s master is Mr. De Vries’. He must also have thought: well, with a mother who does not even know who is involved with her children, I also understand that that child does not come along very well.”
