‘I almost missed the entire New Year’s Eve party’
It’s not a cat piss that December. And if all that bustle doesn’t get you down, those broken nights by your brand new cry baby will surely make it impossible to wake you up during the festivities.
Bridget (32): “My friend Mark has his birthday on December 31 and traditionally we celebrate it every year with a large group of friends at our house. Super fun, I love to show off for our guests, get tasty snacks at home and ring in the new year in an extra festive way. Like three years ago.
Broken nights
I had just given birth to Lena for the first time four months earlier and I was devastated by the broken nights, but we decided to continue the tradition. Our daughter went to stay with my parents for the first time, so that I could fully devote myself to the party preparations. I was busy all day getting the last groceries and putting the house aside. My most beautiful ‘after pregnancy’ party dress was also ready.
“I can’t anymore, I’m going to lie down for a while, then I’ll be fresh again”
Just before everyone would come I said to Mark: I can’t anymore, I’m going to lie down for a while, then I’ll be fresh again in no time. At a quarter to 12 I woke up with a start: I had slept all Mark’s birthday! I walked downstairs with tears in my eyes. There I was greeted enthusiastically by a tipsy group of revelers with: ‘Here’s Sleeping Beauty!’ Mark said, “I gave you a good night’s sleep princess, you were in such a good shape.”
In the end I was not in my most beautiful dress, but in my fluffy toast outside in pajamas and winter coat and watch the fireworks. Sleep well, yes!”

Bang party
Lone (29): “Last year I was Keet’s mom for just eight months on New Year’s Eve. I was afraid all night that she would be blown out of her bed by all the fireworks that went off in our street. But no, the girl slept like a baby. So I thought: I’ll take it – it was allowed again! – and I poured cava one after the other.
“I was afraid all night that she would be blown out of bed by all the fireworks that went off in our street”
At about three o’clock I felt that I had just had one glass too many and that it was time for bed. And of course a neighbor boy decided to shoot something just at that moment. Keet woke up screaming and had no intention of falling asleep afterwards. And so I spent the first day of 2022 with an über broke head and an endless hangover.”
