Huge software update brings 150 new features

The German router manufacturer AVM has released the FritzOS 7.50 software for its users. There will be over 150 new functions and improvements for various Fritz models, from the Fritzbox to repeaters and powerline products. Better WiFi performance is just the beginning.

Fritzbox: AVM distributes FritzOS 7.50

With the new software version 7.50 from FritzOS the digital home will be “faster and smarter”, according to the manufacturer AVM. The distribution has just started for the Fritzbox 7590, many other models are to follow in the near future. AVM has not announced when which product will receive FritzOS 7.50. The update is to be distributed gradually.

The manufacturer speaks of a highlight of the new software version higher performance in the WiFi mesh. This should be made possible via dynamic smart repeating and make itself felt with higher data throughput and more stability in the WLAN network. The increased performance is said to be evident in both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz ranges.

Another function should ensure more justice, the one “fair” distribution of the available bandwidth promises. Data packets should be distributed “better and more fairly” to all devices in the main WLAN and guest WLAN.

That VPN method WireGuard will finally be introduced with FritzOS 7.50. Smartphones, notebooks and other devices can be securely connected to the home network using a QR code while on the move (source: AVM).

Another innovation concerns telephony. Here the phone does not ring with a ringtone, but announces the caller’s name, provided that this is stored in the address book (“Call from Laura”). Appointments can also be reminded in this way (“departure to Freiburg”).
