Rumor: Huawei P50 will be released in 2021
When exactly is still the question, but the manufacturer would like to present the Huawei P50 in the first half of 2021. That writes the Korean The Elec, which claims to have a reliable source. The Huawei P40 series was presented at the end of March of this year and consisted of three devices.
According to the source, the P50 device will get an OLED screen. Its production is presumably carried out by Samsung and LG. Those are both phone display manufacturers, and those screens aren’t just used in their own smartphones. Further details about, for example, its size, resolution and refresh rate are still unknown.
Comes with its own Kirin 9000 chip
It is noteworthy that The Elec also writes that the Huawei P50s will be equipped with the Kirin 9000 chip. That processor was first used in the Huawei Mate 40 series that was presented recently. According to previous reports, just enough of those chips would have been made to equip the Mate 40s with it. As a result, those devices would also immediately be the last with this processor on board.
Now that is contradicted, the stock may still be large enough. Good for the Chinese producer, which is in dire straits due to a trade ban. You can read how that chip performs in our Huawei Mate 40 Pro review. That processor is based on a 5 nanometer process. This not only provides more raw processor power, but also improves battery performance. All in all, you have nothing to complain about the performance of that chip.
Android or HarmonyOS?
Whether the device comes on the market with Android or with its own HarmonyOS is still the question. Huawei is also no longer allowed to use Google apps and services, so current devices are already supplied with its own Huawei services. That is why the manufacturer is also working on an alternative proprietary operating system in that area. The first device with that software should be released in 2021, Huawei has previously announced.
