Huawei announces major software update for many Android phones
Huawei has focused on HarmonyOS for its smartphones and is driving the development of the new operating system with great success. But there are still a lot of Android phones from the Chinese manufacturer in circulation for which Huawei is now promising a major software update.
Huawei promises EMUI 12 for many Android smartphones
Many owners of older Huawei smartphones that still run Android have felt abandoned in recent months. Although the Chinese company made an update promise, updates have remained the exception rather than the rule. And HarmonyOS is still not available as an upgrade in Europe. The Huawei Nova 9 and Nova 8i have even appeared as brand new smartphones with Android 11 and EMUI 12. Exactly this software is supposed to be there now for many other Huawei phones (Source. In addition to new models like the Mate 40 Pro or P40 Pro, Huawei also wants very old models like the P20 Pro or even the Mate 10 Pro still supply. It is currently unclear whether you will automatically get Android 11 with it. EMUI 12 with Android 11 is preinstalled on the Nova 9 and Nova 8i. Huawei could also simply distribute the new interface and leave the old Android version as it is.
The schedule currently envisages Huawei with the EMUI-12 updates for its older Android smartphones starts in the first half of 2022. Depending on the model, it could take more than half a year for the update to actually reach you. Before that, there should be beta tests to ensure functionality.
Huawei Nova 9 with Android 11 and EMUI 12
As mentioned, Huawei recently launched the Nova 9 with EMUI 12 and Android 11 in Germany. Many had actually hoped that with this smartphone a HarmonyOS smartphone would finally appear with us. But nothing will come of it. Incidentally, the Honor 50 is a very similar smartphone, but it is equipped with Google services.
