How to take a picture of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G smartphone?

Welcome to our old well-known series, in which we introduce individual smartphones and talk about the quality of their cameras. We are more satisfied with some, and a little less with others. The recently tested “jigsaw” Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is a flagship with a truly redesigned flexible construction. We are sure that many will fall in love with this model, but you will be unpleasantly surprised by the low battery life per charge.

The set of cameras can then be compared to the upper middle class, which is not very good news given the high price of this device. You can read more details about the set of cameras in the review of this smartphone itself, or in the continuation of the article. So let’s describe the sensors of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G smartphone.

Cameras

Let’s start with the paper parameters. The main sensor has 12 MP and a brightness of f / 1.8. The sensor has pixels of 1.4 µm and will also enjoy optical image stabilization. The second camera has an ultra-wide angle shot with a 123-degree field of view. In this case, the shutter stopped at f / 2.2. The sensor has 12 MP and the individual pixels have a physical size of 1.12 µm. The front “selfie” sensor has a resolution of 10 MP, brightness f / 2.4 and 1.22 µm pixels.

Now let’s talk about their abilities in practice. The capabilities of the primary camera are good, but they definitely do not fall into the price category around € 1,000. The quality of the sensors is somewhere in the upper middle class of mobile phones. However, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G definitely does not belong to this category. Therefore, it is a slight concern that may discourage the purchase of some. Photos taken during the day sometimes come to me so dull with a lower level of detail throughout the picture. Maybe I’m just used to sensors with higher resolution. 12 MP is more than enough, but after viewing the photo on a computer, you will notice less detail. But on the smartphone screen, the photos look great, just like they hung on social networks. The sharpness of the images is sufficient. Contrast looks good, HDR mode works as it should. Night photos are below average for a given price.

With the fading light, the quality goes down rapidly and, for example, with such a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra it is generally not possible to compare the quality of the cameras of the tested device. It is a pity. The ultra-wide sensor takes photos like mid-range models. Even in daylight, the photos have less detail, but at least the colors remain the same, compared to the primary lens. But you don’t have to worry about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G not being able to create nice shots. The cameras are generally good, they just don’t touch other phones in this price range.

For those who want to have nice photos on social networks, a folding novelty will be more than enough. There is no telephoto lens on the back of the phone. Therefore, all zoomed photos will be created using digital zoom from the primary sensor, the resolution of which, however, is not sufficient for such operations. So the zoomed photos will not be worth anything. Honestly, however, I am one of the minimum number of users who suffer from a quality telephoto lens, so most of you will not miss almost at all. The photos from the front “selfie” sensor are fine, it is definitely enough for occasional photos. But again, I think the classic flagships have better front sensors. Videos are recorded in the maximum possible resolution of 4K at a frame rate of 60 fps. I rate the video very well and it also looks good on a computer monitor.
