Are you going to buy a second-hand iPhone and do you want to be sure that all important parts are original? Which can. iOS 15.2 knows everything about the history of your iPhone.

Read on after the ad.

iOS 15.2 shows the history of your iPhone

Apple has released a new software update for the iPhone. iOS 15.2 adds a host of new features, including a way to check if your phone has been repaired with genuine (or fake) parts. You can find the new option in the settings menu:

  1. Grab your iPhone and open the Settings app;
  2. Go to ‘General’ and tap ‘About’;
  3. Here you can see under ‘Parts and service history’ whether your iPhone has been repaired with real or fake parts.

Do you see a warning sign next to a part? This means that a non-genuine part was used during the repair. You will also see a warning if the part has already been used by another iPhone, or is not functioning as expected.

It works on this iPhone

It differs per model how extensive the information about the history of the iPhone is. On an iPhone 13 (released last September) you can see if the battery, display and camera have been replaced. If you walk around with an iPhone XR (from 2019), you can only see whether the battery has been replaced with a real/fake one.

The new feature in iOS 15.2 does not appear at random. Apple recently announced that it would start selling original iPhone parts to consumers from next year. This allows anyone to repair her or his iPhone themselves. For now, the program is only rolling out in the United States.

New Features in iOS 15.2

Secretly, iOS 15.2 is a major interim update for the iPhone. For example, you can now also request a privacy report per app. That way you can see exactly what data the app in question has access to. In addition, Apple is adding seven more big new features with iOS 15.2. Are you curious about the rest? Then read our article about the features of iOS 15.2.
