how many calories do you burn with the household

Fitness center? Almost redundant. Just make your house extra clean: you burn more calories than you think. And afterwards you can put your feet up in a clean house. Win win.

Cleaning the bathroom in particular is a big workout.

The more fanatical, the better

Cleaning expert Liesbeth Verboven of Het Poetsbureau has put all her findings about cleaning on paper in The Great Cleaning Bible (a book full of facts about cleaning, washing and ironing). This way you can also read how many calories you burn during the household. And let that be exactly what we are curious about. Of course the following applies: the more fanatical the cleaning, the better.

  • Cleaning the bathroom: 400 calories per hour
  • Scrubbing the floor: 325 calories per hour
  • Vacuuming: 250 calories per hour
  • Mopping: 312 calories per hour
  • Cleaning windows: 300 calories per hour
  • Dusting: 170 calories per hour
  • Washing dishes: 160 calories per hour
  • Ironing: 137 calories per hour
  • Doing the laundry: 146 calories per hour
  • Making the bed: 136 calories per hour
  • Cooking: 136 calories per hour

The figures in the list above are based on an average.
