‘How do people get it in their heads?’
Many mothers sometimes suffer from mom shaming, including Kimberley Klaver (35). While walking with her sons in the park, she gets an annoying remark thrown at her head. “I was looking around a little dazed.”
The actress closed her toddler’s coat, but she – of course – preferred to do it herself. “A little tantrum followed. And while I tried to stay calm and with baby glued to me also tried to calm my toddler someone (older lady) felt called to say these words: what terrible parents you have! Then quickly continue cycling.” Kimberley writes on Instagram.
Not alright
Kimberley was so shocked that she looked a little dazed and tried to calm the coat drama. “My anger came later, at that woman who was cycling. Because how do some people even get it in their head to just bring someone down without any knowledge of a person or situation?” she continues. “The criticism that people think they can give (or shout) about motherhood and parenting and the speed with which some make judgments is not okay.”

you are doing well
The comment hit me hard. “And yet it sometimes touches you, because little sleep and vulnerable and you DO want to do it right. Should I have handled it differently? Immediately lift too?”, the Kek Mama columnist writes. But she soon concludes: “No, it’s not me. And that probably applies to you too.” Kimberley encourages herself and other mothers. “I’m doing well. You are doing well. The only ones that don’t get it right are the judgmental yellers who are all too happy to point the finger at someone else.”
And that is precisely why Kek Mama has created mombracing, the positive counterpart of momshaming. We fight for a world where mothers support each other instead of tearing each other down. The brand new Kek Mama Special is therefore all about mom bracing.
