HomePod 2023 review roundup
Apple has released a new generation of HomePod after five years. The HomePod 2023 differs little from the first generation, but has a touchscreen at the top that you use to control the volume of the speaker. The HomePod is easy to operate with both your iPhone and voice control.

The HomePod 2023 is equipped with the S7 chip, with which Siri, for example, works a lot better. The speaker is equipped with a large 4-inch woofer and five tweeters all around. The HomePod 2023 will be available from February 3 for €349. What do international critics think of the speaker? We put the reviews together in this HomePod 2023 review round-up.
1. Engadget
Engadget’s tech editor is very pleased with Apple’s new speaker. Billy Steele thinks the sound of the speaker is excellent, with the only drawback that voices are sometimes very emphasized. As a result, songs with vocals sometimes don’t sound quite right. According to Steele, you need two HomePods for the best sound, but one also provides very good sound.
The big disadvantage of the HomePod, according to Steele, is the lack of Bluetooth. This HomePod must also be connected wired and cannot be used with Bluetooth. The quick responses from Siri and the control via HomeKit weigh up against that, according to Steele. Steele expects even more new features to come to the HomePod 2023, but is already satisfied with the speaker.

2. The Verge
The Verge is also positive about Apple’s new speaker. Chris Welch and Jennifer Pattison think that Apple played it safe with the new speaker, because it is not much different from the first-generation HomePod. However, according to them, the HomePod has fantastic sound, which is the most important thing in a speaker.
Welch and Pattison also believe that you need two HomePods for the best sound. The deep integration into Apple’s ecosystem and Siri’s fast response speed are also a notable plus according to the reviewers. The conclusion of Welch and Pattison is that no matter how good the speaker is, Apple could have played a little less safe with the HomePod 2023.

3.TechCrunch
Brian Heater, TechCrunch’s reviewer, praises the good sound quality of the new HomePod. According to the tester, the deep bass comes out well in the new speaker, without drowning out the rest of the sound. Heater believes the HomePod is a hugely good buy, provided you’re already in the Apple ecosystem. The combination with your iPhone, Apple Music and the HomeKit makes it well worth the purchase.
In addition, Heater is happy with the design of the HomePod 2023. The HomePod has not changed much compared to the first-generation HomePod, but that was not necessary: the design was already good. The touchscreen on the top of the speaker is a nice addition. The biggest advantage according to Heater: the cable can be removed from the HomePod. The reviewer believes that Apple should not have canceled the HomePod and is happy that the speaker is back.
