Highly pregnant Nina ended up in hospital with corona: ‘How can you puff if you have no breath?’
She tells her story in a candid interview with Libelle.

“My entire pregnancy I had no problems, no ailments,” says Nina. “But in my last working week before my leave I didn’t feel very fit.” Not so strange, she thought – after all, it was the last stretch. Yet after a few days Nina felt so bad that she couldn’t eat anything and was incredibly tired. The result of the corona test provided clarity: it was positive.

Nina deteriorated rapidly and after nine days of ailing she ended up at the GP post on Sunday morning: she suddenly became very short of breath. “‘It’s not good at all,’ said the doctor who measured my oxygen. When the ambulance arrived, I was very shocked. I thought: I’m not the kind of person who ends up in the ICU? I don’t know how I ended up in the hospital, but I still remember very well the moment I got an oxygen mask on. Wow, what a difference.”

Cesarean section
Doctors decided that the baby should be born as soon as possible so that Nina would have more room to breathe. “I was then induced to start the labour, but the next morning a new plan was devised because I was getting worse again. Because how can you puff if you have no breath and have not eaten for nine days? simply had no strength for a natural delivery.” On Tuesday morning, Nina received an epidural and her healthy son Knox was born by caesarean section.

“It was unbelievable: the moment it was taken out of my stomach, I immediately had more air,” says Nina. “The doctor held him up so I could see him, then he was examined right away because they wanted to make sure he was okay.” Fortunately, Knox recovered and Nina recovered quickly. But start motherhood this way? She wouldn’t wish that on anyone. “You have to recover from childbirth anyway, you can’t use corona for that. I was lucky that I was already 38 weeks pregnant and my son Knox was ‘finished’ and could be born, but it also went the other way. can fall.”
