Here’s what we know about Warzone 2 and the next 2 Call of Duty’s
Activision has at least three new Call of Duty’s in the pipeline, including Warzone 2! This is what we know.
The Call of Duty franchise is getting a little stale in many ways. The formula is applied every year to games that hardly differ from each other. Yet Activision managed to hit the mark with the most recent Modern Warfare and battle royale spinoff Warzone. The publisher under Microsoft will try that again in the coming years with the next Modern Warfare and Warzone 2!
Call of Duty Warzone 2 in the works
After the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft for $69 billion (!) there was a moment of panic for Call of Duty fans on the PlayStation. Would the games still come to their consoles? Apart from the fact that Xbox boss Phil Spencer himself confirmed this, insiders also say that this target group does not have to worry for the time being.
According to four anonymous sources (to Bloomberg), the upcoming Call of Duty games in the works are also just for PlayStation.
The sources then mention the upcoming games: a new Modern Warfare game is planned for this year. The following year, Treyarch would release a new game, presumably a Black Ops title. Finally, at an unknown moment, a Warzone 2 will also be released.
Setting of the upcoming Call of Duty’s
The interpretation of the first two Call of Duty’s is quite obvious. Modern Warfare will once again focus on some well-known characters from the sub-franchise. The games are set in the present. Black Ops focuses more on the Cold War, although a trip to the future is not excluded.
Warzone 2, on the other hand, is a tricky one. The original Warzone is still an unprecedented gold mine for the developer. Activision must therefore come up with a completely different game in order not to spread the player base too much over the two Warzones. That is why the expectation is that a sequel will also take a few years.
