Here’s how to turn the boring blue arrow in Google Maps into a car

Do you like to navigate with Google Maps? You can change the icon that should represent you very easily. No more boring blue arrow, but a very animated little car.

There are three cars to choose from, in three different colors familiar to Google fans. You can choose a red passenger car, a yellow station wagon and a green pick-up, in addition to that blue arrow of course. The funny thing is that the cars also go up and down on their wheels, which looks very funny. You then get to see such a car throughout the entire route as if it were your car.

It’s a shame there aren’t more cars to choose from or extras to download so you can drive a car that looks more like your car, but these three are still very charming.

Here’s how you manage to turn that blue arrow into a happy car:

• Open Google Maps
• Tap Search here your destination
• Tap on Route
• Tap on Start
• Tap the blue arrow or blue circle
• You will then get the pop-up menu Select vehicle icon
• Tap on one of the three cars
• Maps automatically goes back to your navigation and there is your car (maybe not pointing in the right direction, but that often works out quickly).

Cool right? It is of course not the intention that you will do this while you are driving, but when you are standing still you can set this very easily. That looks just a bit nicer while you try to get to your destination. Unfortunately cyclists: in the cycling or walking mode of Google Maps navigation you can’t. Then just nothing happens when you tap the arrow.
