Best iPhone games of 2022
Whether we play with cards featuring Marvel heroes or scour film footage for answers. We work together to solve puzzles and use our voice to progress. From the endless variety in the App Store, we have selected the 15 best iPhone games of 2022.
15. Dice Dungeons
Dicey Dungeons is a wonderful roguelike that combines fine gameplay with fun characters. You play as dice with personalities, who fight by rolling other dice. You only get to reroll a few times, so be careful.

14. Before Your Eyes (Netflix)
Before Your Eyes provides a special way to control a game. You blink with your eyes to move on. You play as someone who has just died, after which the ferryman who takes you to the afterlife must first learn about your life. While blinking you will experience a beautiful story full of fine characters.

13. One Hand Clapping
You do not solve platforms and puzzles in One Hand Clapping with buttons, but with your voice. You must sing high and low and be able to hold a note to progress in this colorful game. That turns out to be not only refreshing, but above all a lot of fun.

12. Immortality (Netflix)
Browse an almost endless collection of footage from three films that never appeared, in order to solve a mystery. You do this by tapping objects or people, after which you go to the next fragment. Immortality is the most interesting and best made game of the year, but unfortunately the game doesn’t run very well on smartphones.

11. Desta: The Memories Between (Apple Arcade)
The makers of Monument Valley have created a unique tactical game. In this you control Desta who goes back to their home village and has to face their fears there. Desta combats those fears via dodgeball in tactical combat where you and the enemy take turns moving. But you only have a limited number of balls and the enemy can also throw. So how do you make sure you win?

10. Rail bound
With the NS it is always questionable whether the train is running, but those drivers do not even have to collect the wagons every trip. You can do that in the fun puzzle game Railbound. That is more difficult than it sounds, because more and more elements are added such as fences and passengers. That results in nice brainteasers.

9. Into the Breach (Netflix)
Into the Breach’s small tactical battles fit perfectly on the smartphone. In this turn-based game you get plenty of time to think carefully about how you react to the enemy. Fortunately, you get to see what these monsters do the next turn, but is that enough to make the right choices?

8. Gibbon: Beyond the Trees (Apple Arcade)
Gibbon: Beyond the Trees is a great example of how to talk about climate change and deforestation without getting preachy. As a monkey you swing through the trees until you meet people who demolish things to build houses. Then everything becomes more difficult for the monkeys and you as a player.

7. The Past Within
Dutch puzzle king Rusty Lake has come up with something new: multiplayer puzzles. In The Past Within you need to communicate well with another player to progress. One player is in the future and the other in the past. Can you solve the mystery together?

6. Papers, Please
At the border of a fictional communist state, you must decide who can pass. If you do that wrong, it will have consequences for the state and your family. All you have to decide is who you trust and who you don’t. That is particularly difficult when lives depend on it.
5. Poinpy (Netflix)
An angry and hungry cat is chasing you. As the little creature Poinpy, you have to quickly jump up to escape. While jumping, you not only have to dodge enemies, but also collect fruits to feed the cat juices. If you don’t do it right, the cat will eat you. Poinpy is a wonderful game that you start again and again to get a little further.

4. Jetpack Joyride 2 (Apple Arcade)
There is finally a sequel to smartphone hit Jetpack Joyride and it is more fun than the predecessor on all fronts. You’re still flying around with a jetpack while dodging missiles and other enemies. In the original, your only goal was to get as far as possible and also complete small assignments to earn coins. This time you have much more to do.
The game has missions that you must complete, with bosses at the end to defeat. You get plenty of weapons and upgrades that you can spend your hard-earned coins, diamonds and more on. You can build a base and encounter a rich variety of enemies. In addition, you can also just choose to try the endless mode.

3.Vampire Survivors
At the last minute, another of the best games of the year hit the App Store: Vampire Survivors. Here you play as a hero who has to fight against thousands of monsters that all come straight at you. You can walk around alone, while the character whips or shoots magic spells on its own.
The fun is in defeating the monsters and leveling up. Then you get upgrades with more weapons, stronger spells and other extras. Little by little you turn into a god who defeats monsters by the dozen, but the enemy is also getting stronger. The result is a silly, but delightful game that doesn’t get boring easily.
2. Apex Legends: Mobile
After shooters PUBG and Call of Duty successfully found their way to smartphones, it was Apex Legends’ turn this year. This battle royale is similar to Fortnite, but with teams in which everyone chooses specific heroes. Each hero has his own powers that must be used to be the last team standing.
Apex Legends: Mobile has everything the original game has, making for a very complete and very fun game. Furthermore, the smartphone version is separate from the large version. That means the game will get its own updates, such as exclusive heroes. That is why you, even if you are a fan of the console version, have reason enough to download the app.

1. Marvel Snap
Marvel Snap is very, very dangerous. You fire up the game to give it a try and you never stop. Although the games in Marvel Snap don’t last more than a few minutes, they quickly pile up so that you play cards for hours a day. That’s how good this game is.
All the heroes and villains from the Marvel comics return as playing cards. You create a small collection of these cards that you take into games against other players. In these games you have to try to be stronger than the opponent in three different locations in six turns.
Because you only have six turns per game, you’ll never be busy for more than a few minutes. Still, during that time you have to think carefully to make smart use of the cards you are dealt and to react to your opponent. And then the locations can also change the whole game. As a result, no game is the same and this game remains fun. Ideal for in between, but you’ve been warned: once you play, it doesn’t stop there.
