4. Jetpack Joyride 2 (Apple Arcade)

There is finally a sequel to smartphone hit Jetpack Joyride and it is more fun than the predecessor on all fronts. You’re still flying around with a jetpack while dodging missiles and other enemies. In the original, your only goal was to get as far as possible and also complete small assignments to earn coins. This time you have much more to do.

The game has missions that you must complete, with bosses at the end to defeat. You get plenty of weapons and upgrades that you can spend your hard-earned coins, diamonds and more on. You can build a base and encounter a rich variety of enemies. In addition, you can also just choose to try the endless mode.

3.Vampire Survivors

At the last minute, another of the best games of the year hit the App Store: Vampire Survivors. Here you play as a hero who has to fight against thousands of monsters that all come straight at you. You can walk around alone, while the character whips or shoots magic spells on its own.

The fun is in defeating the monsters and leveling up. Then you get upgrades with more weapons, stronger spells and other extras. Little by little you turn into a god who defeats monsters by the dozen, but the enemy is also getting stronger. The result is a silly, but delightful game that doesn’t get boring easily.

2. Apex Legends: Mobile

After shooters PUBG and Call of Duty successfully found their way to smartphones, it was Apex Legends’ turn this year. This battle royale is similar to Fortnite, but with teams in which everyone chooses specific heroes. Each hero has his own powers that must be used to be the last team standing.

Apex Legends: Mobile has everything the original game has, making for a very complete and very fun game. Furthermore, the smartphone version is separate from the large version. That means the game will get its own updates, such as exclusive heroes. That is why you, even if you are a fan of the console version, have reason enough to download the app.

1. Marvel Snap

Marvel Snap is very, very dangerous. You fire up the game to give it a try and you never stop. Although the games in Marvel Snap don’t last more than a few minutes, they quickly pile up so that you play cards for hours a day. That’s how good this game is.

All the heroes and villains from the Marvel comics return as playing cards. You create a small collection of these cards that you take into games against other players. In these games you have to try to be stronger than the opponent in three different locations in six turns.

Because you only have six turns per game, you’ll never be busy for more than a few minutes. Still, during that time you have to think carefully to make smart use of the cards you are dealt and to react to your opponent. And then the locations can also change the whole game. As a result, no game is the same and this game remains fun. Ideal for in between, but you’ve been warned: once you play, it doesn’t stop there.
