“He screamed all over the house at half past three”

What could be more fun than a sleepover? Hidden in the sleeping bag to chat and find out halfway through the night that there was an accident.

Alice (39), mother of Joshua (8), Jaimie (7) and Joy (8 months):

“Six-year-old nephew Tim came to stay. According to my sister-in-law, he sometimes had an accident at night, which is why she gave him a pair of diaper pants. Just to be sure, we also let Tim pee when we went to bed ourselves.

Accidents

Unfortunately that was not enough. He had already peed under his sleeping bag. Half by touch, so as not to wake my own son, I changed his bed and put him in Hello Kitty pajamas from Jaimie. But at three-thirty, Tim shouted all over the house, ‘Aunt Alice! I’m wet again!’ Result: the whole family awake, including the baby.

My husband tried with all his might to get everyone back to sleep and I searched half asleep for extra sheets to change the bed again. Very silly perhaps, but when my brother recently asked if Tim could spend the night with us again, I quickly made up an excuse.”
